Exhibition walkthrough and Q&A with Gala Porras-Kim

Join us on Monday, October 21, from 6–7:30 pm for a walkthrough with artist Gala Porras-Kim of her exhibition, The motion of an alluvial record. It will be followed by a Q&A session and conversation with the artist and Storefront.

The motion of an alluvial record is an atmospheric installation by artist Gala Porras-Kim that explores the complex relationships between cultural institutions, the objects they preserve, and the environments from which these objects originate.

Gala Porras-Kim (born 1984, Bogota, Colombia) lives and works in Los Angeles and London. Her practice deals with the social and political contexts that influence how intangible things, such as sounds, language, and history, have been framed through the fields of linguistics, history, and conservation. She considers the way institutions shape inherited codes and forms and, conversely, how objects can shape the contexts in which they are placed. Porras-Kim has had solo exhibitions at Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver (2024); Leeum Museum of Art, Seoul (2023); Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (2023); Fowler Museum, Los Angeles (2023); Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Sevilla (2023); Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City (2023); Gasworks, London (2022); Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis (2022); Amant, Brooklyn (2022); and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2019).
