The exhibition Money on Money was the result of an open call for ideas issued by Storefront aimed at generating discussion around what was perceived as a culture of capital-centric consumption. Participants in the competition were asked to send in redesign the one-dollar bill to reflect the true social values of the contemporary era. Instructions on the flyer, which featured partially blanked-out reproductions of both sides of a U.S. one-dollar bill, read: “Step 1: Fill in Blanks. Step 2: Hand deliver finished work to Storefront. Step 3: Opening Feb. 11, $1.00 donation accompanying each work. Bring your own refreshments.” Featuring currency redesigned by 86 artists, the exhibition closed on February 22nd, George Washington’s birthday.
